Services / Google advertising
The 2pm emergency does not wait for your rankings.
Paid search buys the top of the page today. It is the only channel that can put you in front of someone who needs help right now, this afternoon, whether or not your SEO has matured.
01 / The moment
A pipe bursts at 2pm on a Tuesday.
This is not a shopper. This is someone standing in water with a phone, and the only question they are asking is who can be here soonest. They will call in under two minutes and they will not scroll.
Organic rankings take months to earn. This call is happening today. Paid search is how you are present for the emergency that is already in progress instead of the one you might rank for by next spring.
02 / Why trades are different
Local Services Ads exist for you specifically.
Google built Local Services Ads — the "Google Guaranteed" badge — for exactly this category: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing and the rest of the trades. It sits above the regular ads, it is billed per lead rather than per click, and it carries a verification badge earned through license and insurance checks.
That is not a growth hack, it is a trade-specific ad product most agencies ignore because it doesn't behave like a normal campaign. Running LSA and standard search together — LSA for the badge and lead-priced volume, search for the coverage and the query control — is the configuration that actually wins the page.
03 / The mechanism
What is actually being done.
Keyword bidding on the terms with real job intent, not the ones with impressive volume. Geo-targeting drawn to the service radius you will actually drive, because a lead forty minutes outside it costs the same and closes worse.
Negative keywords, aggressively and continuously — "DIY," "salary," "parts," "free," every query that spends money without producing work. And call tracking on every campaign, because in this industry the conversion is a phone call and an untracked call is an unmeasured dollar.
04 / The revenue logic
Cost per lead against job value.
At a $9 click and a 12% conversion rate, a lead costs $75.
Cost-per-click divided by conversion rate gives cost-per-lead. Set that against average job value and close rate, and the channel either clears or it doesn't — there is no interpretation required.
Against a $650 average job at a 45% close rate, each lead is worth about $292. That spread is the whole business case, and it is the number we manage against week to week rather than optimizing for cheaper clicks.
05 / The contrast
Ads capture. They do not create.
Paid search harvests demand that already exists — someone typed the words. It cannot manufacture a customer who has not yet noticed a problem; that is social's job. And unlike SEO, it owns nothing: pause the budget and the visibility ends that hour.
What it does uniquely well is speed and proof. It is live in days, and it tells you within two weeks which language, offers and services your market actually responds to — intelligence the other three channels then get to use for free.
06 / The close
How Extentus runs Google advertising.
We build the account structure around your service lines and your real radius, get LSA verification moving in parallel, and stand up call tracking and conversion measurement before a single dollar goes out. No campaign launches into an unmeasured funnel.
Then it is managed weekly, not quarterly: search-term review and negatives, bid and budget shifts toward the services that are closing, ad copy tests, and landing-page changes when the data points at the page rather than the campaign. You see cost-per-lead and booked work, and you keep ownership of your ad account permanently.
The reason to do it with us is that we are not optimizing a silo. Ads feed keyword truth into your SEO, retargeting picks up the clicks that didn't call, and the page they land on is one we built to convert. Most agencies run the campaign. We run the system it sits in.
